This year's free virtual Convention is scheduled for October 15th from 10 am to 4 pm, featuring guest speakers such as Jon Bowser from Social Security Works, California Secretary of State Shirley N. Weber, Ph.D., California Controller Malia Cohen, California Assembly Member Pilar Shavio, AFGE Representative Ryan Mimms, and President of the California Federation of Labor Lorena Gonzales. Also, featuring a California gubernatorial candidate forum.

CARA’s founding convention was a two-day event held at the Furama Hotel in Los Angeles in November 2003. During the convention, members elected the first Board of Directors, hired Executive Director Emertius Jodi Reid, and adopted a new Constitution and Bylaws that established the goals for our organization. At the end of the convention, members passed around a hat to collect money for store workers striking near the hotel and later joined them on the picket line.

CARA has continued the tradition of holding annual conventions where we host candidate forums, speaker panels, and workshops. The convention continues to be a place where members vote on the organization's yearly priorities and come together to lean into our shared values.

Most attendees are wearing face masks and are attentively watching or applauding something out of frame. The room has a warm, welcoming atmosphere with art on the walls and a few individuals standing near the back.
